🏛️ VAT Calculator

Add or extract VAT from any amount

📖 Usage Guide

VAT Calculator helps you quickly add or extract Value Added Tax on any amount. Whether you're a business owner calculating what to charge customers, an accountant preparing invoices, or a consumer checking if you're being charged correctly — this tool gets it right in seconds.

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax applied at every stage of production where value is added. It's the most common consumption tax globally, used by over 170 countries. Unlike sales tax (charged only at final sale), VAT creates a chain of credits making tax evasion much harder.

Our calculator supports two modes: (1) Add VAT — start with the net price and add the tax. Useful for businesses setting prices. Example: $100 product + 15% VAT = $115 sale price. (2) Extract VAT — start with the gross (inclusive) price and work backward. Useful for verifying invoices and reclaiming input tax.

When calculating VAT manually, a common mistake is simply subtracting the percentage rate. For example, from $115 (15% VAT inclusive), subtracting 15% gives $97.75 — which is wrong. The correct method: $115 ÷ 1.15 = $100 net. Our calculator eliminates this error entirely.

For businesses: track your input VAT (what you pay suppliers) and output VAT (what you charge customers). The difference is what you owe the tax authority. Our calculator helps with both directions. File returns on time — late filing penalties in Saudi Arabia start at 5% of tax due.

VAT rates change frequently — Saudi Arabia increased from 5% to 15% in 2020. Always verify current rates for your jurisdiction. Our calculator defaults to 15% (Saudi Arabia) but you can set any rate. For zero-rated or exempt items, simply enter 0%.
